TBI Art Exhibit

This exhibit  will show some of the ways we use art therapy in treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  Making art is a form of learning that bypasses the analytical, verbal & mathematical parts of the brain. People in art therapy treatment usually have so much fun in session they are not even aware of how much they are learning.  Every time we learn something, neural connections are made.  Neuron growth is how the brain heals AND it is one of the best ways to treat depression.  Our clients always look forward to art therapy sessions. In addition to making interesting art pieces, art therapy helps people with TBI to heal and recover in the following ways:

  • Enhances neurological rehabilitation and healing after sustaining
    traumatic brain injury
  • develop  and maintain motor skills
  • improve range of motion
  • increases ability to sustain attention and focus
  • cognitive structure and organization through structure of art
  • aids with improving short-term memory through patterning and
    creating working memory
  • improves visual/spatial skills
  • enhances social skills
  • Provides additional emotional outlets to assist with acceptance of loss of previous level of functioning (increases coping skills)
  • Assists with clients' transformation of self
  • encourages problem solving and decision making
  • improves self esteem
  • provides opportunity for self-expression
